My Take

Gotta

order:

Miso soup, any of their handrolls (all great!)

Vibes:

Cozy, warm, intimate, inviting, friendly, upscale

Notes:

Saru handroll bar might be unassuming on the outside, but inside it is the perfect blend of cozy, welcoming environment with a modern and upscale feel. As the name implies, handrails are their thing. Their seating arrangement puts most guests facing inward to the prep area where they make the handrolls in front of you, giving a fun experience while you eat. The chefs crank out handrolls at an impressive speed, and are generous with offering additional rolls or little bites. One note on making a res here- because a lot of the seating faces the chefs preparing the rolls in bar-style setup, this spot is probably not your best bet for group dining. I’d head here when it’s just you and one other person.

Sara handroll bar has a straightforward menu with a wide variety of handrolls and a few additional bites, like miso soup. Each handroll I tried was fresh, light, and had the perfect balance of sauce. Quite honestly, I couldn’t recommend one handroll over another- I don’t find handrails to vary in flavor as much as traditional sushi. As far as fish I stuck to tuna, salmon, and scallop and they remember them each being equally tasty.
