Maketto had such interesting flavors and spices in each of their dishes. They’re a Cambodian and Taiwanese fusion restaurant, so they’re definitely more of a unique pick for dinner. They offer small, medium, and large plates which makes it easy to share a few dishes with one other person, or get a bigger range of each size with a larger group. The inside of the restaurant felt very sleek and modern, with a display case of sneakers when you walk in, while the outside had cafe lights and large tables, giving it a much cozier feel.
We ordered a huge assortment of items for our table, selecting a couple from the small, medium, and large sections. Our waitress told us that they’re famous for their fried chicken, so we got it in their sandwich format and were not disappointed- their spice rub was almost a little sweet with cinnamony flavors, which was a unique twist to a classic. I also really enjoyed their sourdough scallion pancakes, but was surprised that they were fried almost like a donut hybrid. My other favorite dish was their peking duck bao buns- they have us about 10 different toppings to create our own perfect bao! I would say you could skip the cauliflower and the mochi dumplings were ‘just okay.’
My one callout about Maketto, and this is of no fault of the restaurant- it’s not in the best location in the city. I didn’t feel too safe walking in, and we had a homeless man walk up to our indoor table begging for money while we were dining.
