Hack Your Toast: The Air-Fried Yogurt Toast That Took TikTok by Storm – Perfected
Calling all toast enthusiasts and air fryer fanatics! We’ve all been there – staring at a boring slice of toast, wishing it could be more exciting. Well, friends, gather ’round because we’re about to introduce you to the Air-Fried Yogurt Toast: a healthy, satisfying start to the morning that is easily customizable.
Here’s the deal: this recipe takes your basic toast and transforms it into a mini, air-fried,custardy flavor bomb. We fill it with a creamy yogurt mixture (think French toast vibes, but lighter) and top it off with your favorite goodies. Basically, it’s a custard treat pretending to be toast, and it’s kind of amazing.
This recipe is perfect for:
- Weekday breakfasts that are a little more exciting than cereal. (Let’s face it, cereal gets old after a while.)
- A satisfying post-workout snack. Protein from the yogurt and a touch of sweetness – what more could you ask for?
- A little post-din sweet treat. We snuck some protein and fruit in there, so it practically counts as health food, right?
But wait, there’s more! Air-Fried Yogurt Toast is:
- Super Easy: With minimal ingredients and a quick air-frying process, this recipe comes together faster than you can say “hangry.”
- Customizable: Don’t like raspberries? Swap them for blueberries, strawberries, chopped nuts, or even a drizzle of chocolate sauce (hey, we never said it couldn’t be a dessert sometimes!).
- Air Fryer Friendly: Ditch the stovetop and embrace the magic of the air fryer! It delivers a crispy, golden brown exterior without all the extra oil.
- A Healthy Start to the Day: The yogurt and egg provide protein, and the fruit adds some vitamins. Use low-carb o whole wheat bread to meet your nutrient needs.
The Magic of Yogurt Toast
Yogurt toast was the first big Tik Tok trend of 2022, and I’m still obsessed. I’ve found it pretty hard to get the right balance of cooking the custard all the way through, but not burning the toast. After a lot of trial and tribulation, I think I have perfected the craft.
Let’s Get Toasting: A Step-by-Step Guide
- Prep Your Bowl-Shaped Base: Take your bread of choice (ideally something sturdy) and gently press down on the center with a spoon or mug. This will create a little well in the middle, transforming your toast into a mini bowl.
- Whip Up the Creamy Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together your yogurt, egg, cinnamon, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Did You Know? Adding a dash of cinnamon adds a warm, cozy flavor that screams fall (even if it’s not fall).
- Air Fryer Fiesta: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Carefully pour the yogurt mixture into the bread well and add your favorite toppings. We went with fresh raspberries, but the possibilities are endless!
Intermission to talk about bread
I prefer to use a low-cal/low carb bread, but you can use whatever you want. Just remember, the bigger the slice, the more surface area for custard. Ideally you want something with a little bit of structure to make a strong vessel for the custard.
- Cook to Perfection: Pop your creations into the air fryer and cook for about 10 minutes, or until the yogurt mixture is set and the edges of the bread are golden brown.
- Devour and Repeat: Carefully remove your Air-Fried Yogurt Toasts from the air fryer and enjoy!
Bonus Tip: Feeling fancy? Drizzle a touch of honey or maple syrup over the top before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.
