Kaiyo is a Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant that serves up some of the most interesting dishes and unconventional cuisine combos. From lomo saltado to lomo sushi rolls, and a wide variety of bites and larger shareables, Kaiyo has it all covered. They have two locations- one in Cow Hollow, and the a rooftop location near Oracle Park. While I’ve only visited their Cow Hollow location, I’ve heard great things about the -vibes- of their rooftop. The restaurant itself is as funky and cool as their menu. They play loud music, have eclectic decor, yet maintain a somewhat sophisticated feel. Their drink menu is also killer. Think pisco sours, tea infusions, and the same fusion-style menu approach to their cocktails.
As far as food, Kaiyo takes a shareable format with smaller and larger bites. I’d recommend working your way through each section, ordering a couple sushi rolls, a handful of smaller items, and one or two larger options. I remember really loving their sushi- I found it to be incredibly interesting and different from a lot of other sushi in the area. Their menu also changes frequently, rotating out options seasonally, so it’s a great place to repeat.
