My Take

Gotta

order:

Sea urchin cacio e pepe, dried porcini donuts with raclette

Vibes:

Dim lit, cozy, warm, inviting, comfortable, upscale but welcoming, vibrant

Notes:

I’ve been referred to Rich Table many a time, will several people claiming it as their favorite SF restaurant. Needless to say, expectations were high. While it didn’t top the list of my favorite SF spots, I can definitely see the appeal. The interior is incredibly cozy and welcoming, the type of spot that makes you feel like you’re curled up by a fire. It’s the quintessential good-vibe date night spot.

In terms of food- it’s an assortment of bites, small, medium, and larger plates. They rotate their menu, but seem to always have the most unique pairings of ingredients. For example, we tried one of their more ‘staple’ dishes, the sea urchin cacio e pepe and found the urchin to give it a creamy umami flavor rather than anything seafood-esque. We also had their dried porcini donuts served with raclette and it’s one of the best things I ate on my week-long SF food tour. It was perfectly pillowy dough, and a very unique umami flavor, leading me to believe that Rich table has mastered the art of ‘umami.’
