Preheat oven to 350
Cut bread into 1inch(ish) cubes
Lightly grease the bottom of an 8x8 dish and fill to the top (a little over) with your bread cubes
In a separate bowl, add together everything else for the base, mixing well
Pour mixture over bread in 8x8 pan, allowing bread to soak up mixture. Pat pieces down, so they get fully soaked, and let sit for a few minutes.
Once bread has soaked up the mixture, push down again, so that all pieces can be fully soaked by the liquid.
Bake for about 50 minutes, covering with tin foil about 35-40 minutes in.
While baking, heat all ingredients for the topping over low heat, until simmering.
Once bread pudding base is done, pour topping over, and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
